Joe Sichi was born in Los Angeles, California in 1964. He began painting in oils when he was seventeen, because of certain minute details he noticed in people and nature which he wanted very much to remember.
Learning by doing, he intensively studied the works of Cezanne, Van Gogh, Degas; Gauguin and Picasso. His art is equally influenced by the writings of Steinbeck, Bukowski, Hemingway, Dickens, Locklin, Hesse, Swift, and without doubt, Faulkner.
Joe Sichi currently works equally in Water Color and Oils. He does not prefer one to the other, but is rather driven by the amazing color inherent in both. His preferred themes are.......? He began exhibiting his work in 1989.
He prefers to exclude all other areas of life when painting or dealing with finished paintings, including Love, Philosophy, Politics and Money, although he realizes (particularly in the case of the first and the last) that this is not always possible.
In 1989 Joe Sichi was awarded the "Best of Show (All Categories) Prize" (Judges' Choice), "Best of Show (Oils) Prize" (Judges' Choice), and "Best of Show (All Categories) Prize" (People's Choice) in the Rand Art Exhibition, Santa Monica, California
