Pamoja Kwa Amani ? The Spirit of Global Harmony

Planning for the traveling exhibition Pamoja Kwa Amani - The Spirit of Global Harmony started in the Summer of 2003. A first preview of the exhibition was shown in Gallery Jin in Nagoya in July 8-13, 2004 with Christian Huggett (paintings), Francis Marie (woodblock prints), Ulrich Moehwald (photography), Julius Njau (paintings, prints), Eddi Ruiz (photography), and Joe Sichi (paintings). A second preview followed in Gallery Haku in Osaka in September 13-18 2004 with Francis Marie (woodblock prints), Ulrich Moehwald (photography), Julius Njau (paintings, prints), and Joe Sichi (paintings). The first main exhibition was shown in the Nagoya International Center May 17-22, 2005 with Francis Marie (woodblock prints), Ulrich Moehwald (street photography), Julius Njau (paintings, prints), and Joe Sichi (paintings) as the resident artists from Nagoya. They were joined by the Argentinian artists Mariano Cinat (paintings) and Atilio Pernisco (paintings) who came from Los Angeles, and by the Kenian artist Pius Odongo (prints) who was in Nagoya for the Aichi EXPO. Further shows were already planned for Los Angeles and New York, but the exhibition was under an unlucky star. As the planning progressed, unforeseen difficulties arose. Continuous change of the schedule and the venues for the show became necessary, troubles with transport occurred... And then Ulrich Moehwald's wife was diagnosed with a severe illness in the middle of the exhibition at Gallery Jin and she eventually passed away in April 2005, just three weeks before the start of the exhibition at Nagoya. Personal tragic events continued to occur to several of Marafiki ? Friendship and Artfs members throughout 2005 and 2006, and the plans for the upcoming exhibitions had to be abandoned. More than a thousand people saw the three shows in Japan.

Pamoja Kwa Amani ? The Spirit of Global Harmony was supported by the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Japan, the Alliance Fran?aise Aichi, Nagoya Cityfs Mayorfs Office, and the Nagoya International Center. The show at the Nagoya International Center was sponsored by the Estate of Brigitte Moehwald, by Redrock Nagoya, and TMG International.
