| In the spring of 2008, Ulrich Moehwald and Joe Sichi visited Albert Susslers exhibition at Nagoya's Noritake Garden Gallery and they were immediately im-pressed not only by Albert's work, but also by the gallery where the exhibition took place. Noritake Garden (ƒmƒŠƒ^ƒP‚ÌX) itself is a 44,960 m2 wide area that includes a big park and several cultural and commercial facilities related to the history and contemporary production of Noritake Co., the maker of Japan's finest porcelain. It is actually located on the site of Noritake's 1904 pottery factory with one of the old red brick buildings housing the Noritake Museum. Located at the East Gate of Noritake Garden, this Gallery is an incredibly fine venue for exhibitions that include a greater number of exhibits. Joe Sichi and Ulrich Moehwald immediately inquired about the possibility of holding a Marafiki exhibition at this place, but due to various factors became too busy to have enough time for the realization of this idea. Then, in the Summer of 2008, Albert Sussler approached Joe and proposed a joint exhibition at Noritake Garden Gallery in March 2009. That's how "The Power of Symbols" was born. The exhibition itself was held March 24-29, 2009, and in our opinion was a great success. Albert Sussler (ceramics), Francis Marie (woodblock prints), Joe Sichi (paintings), and Ulrich Moehwald (photography) showed more than 300 exhibits, and 1000 visitors were attracted to the exhibition during the six days. We are very thankful to the staff of Noritake Garden Gallery for their kind help and cooperation in realizing this exhibition. |
